Kate Forsyth

Kate is the proud author of around a dozen books, including one collection of poetry, two children’s books, one serious literary attempt, and several big, fat fantasy series. Her books have been published in Australia, the US and Canada, the UK, Germany and Russia, and she has received fan mail from Saudi Arabia, Korea, Finland and the Netherlands, where one fan is attempting to translate her books into Dutch. She has a BA In Literature and a MA in Writing, and writes articles for a variety of magazines and newspapers, including Spectrum, Good Reading, and The Age.

She is best known for her bestselling Witches of Eileanan series, of which several have been short-listed for the Aurealis Award for Excellence in Speculative Fiction. The first book of this series, Dragonclaw, was also named as one of the Best First Novels of 1998 by Locus. Her latest series, called Rhiannon’s Ride, is set in the same world. Book 1, The Tower of Ravens, was in the Australian list of top 10 fantasy bestsellers for over a year, and in the US reached No 11 on the Barnes and Noble fantasy bestsellers list, and No 23 on the national Booktrack fantasy list. Book 2, The Shining City has been secure in the Australian fantasy list since its release in June.

Kate has also written a young adult fantasy called The Starthorn Tree, shortlisted for the Aurealis Award for YA Fantasy, the Western Australian Children’s Choice Awards and the One Book, One City campaign in Brisbane. Her latest book is a children’s fantasy called Dragon Gold. She has also written a contemporary literary novel Full Fathom Five, published under her maiden name, Kate Humphrey, and a collection of poetry called Radiance.
