Sydney, Australia: 2005

The inaugural Once Upon a Deadline was a true experiment. The result? Treating the writer‘s process as public performance art provoked genuine curiosity, and this spread quickly by word of mouth. At the end of the writing day, over 400 people showed up at the Read Off, making it an unanticipated success.

The Judges Prize went to Mary Moody. Roxzan Bowes was awarded the Bryce Courtenay Award, donated to encourage new and burgeoning writers.
