Sydney, Australia: 2006
In the early morning chill, our writers gathered at Paddington Town Hall. Following the ritual Starting Poem, they fanned out in crisscrossing routes, seeking inspiration at the Wayside Chapel, the Sydney Dogs Home, the Darlinghurst Laundromat, the Gertrude and Alice bookstore and, of course, our writer‘s cage, prominently situated in Paddington Market.
The Judges Prize was awarded to Ian Perlman for his sardonic account of the day from the perspective of a worldly dog. Lewie JPD adopted the idiosyncratic persona of a slightly oddball Japanese man, earning himself the Bryce Courtenay Award.
